Should I go on a retreat alone or with a friend?

Here we look at the benefits of going alone vs going with a friend. It certainly depends on what you want and how you want to experience the retreat, but hopefully, these points below will give you some food for thought.

When we run our retreats often we get asked by our clients if they should come alone or with a friend. Hence the main reason for writing this blog, and thus making it easier for you to decide if you want to come alone or with someone. We’ve prepared a short table below listing the benefits of both sides. Regardless, if you come alone or with someone, you will have a great time at our retreats – just see our testimonials on the homepage.

And of course don’t forget that the reverse of those benefits are the drawbacks of coming alone or with someone, which you can work out from those benefits listed above. With that said, we try to make you feel comfortable and at home whether you come alone or with someone ensuring that you make the most of your retreat/event experience with us here at Ganga Flow. As always, we encourage you to get in touch with us before the event to ask us any questions you have, and it will be our pleasure to help you out.

So, if you are ready to attend your first retreat check out our upcoming events here and read about how you can prepare for your first retreat here.

How to prepare for your first retreat?

If you have never been to a retreat before and you are getting ready to go for your first retreat, this is for you. Here’s a simple guide to help you fully enjoy the experience and get the most out of it.

Why do I need to prepare anything I hear you ask? Like with everything in life, a little bit of preparation will help you get the best out of whatever you are going to do. Just thinking about it is a very good place to start. Don’t know how to prepare?! Don’t worry, we are here to help you with that. Here are some simple points to think about to help you prepare for your first or next retreat.

Arrive a bit earlier: Get to the retreat a bit earlier. This will help you in two ways. 1) you can arrive early, talk to the team and the other guests, and create connections. It will also help you feel more comfortable during the retreat. 2) you will not be rushing and stressed then. We all know this, when we are late or tight on time, we are not our best selves. So let’s get there a bit earlier.

Go with an open mindset: This will help you get the most out of the retreat. Be a sponge. Listen carefully, and take in everything you can, but at the end of the day, it’s up to you to apply these to your life or not if you don’t believe in it. But the important thing is to go with an open mind.

Ask questions: It comes along with the above point. Ask questions if you are not clear or want to know more about it. You can do this during the session if it is possible or after the session. This is your retreat, so get the most out of it.

Take everything you need: Whatever you need that will help you enjoy a problem-free time at the retreat (glasses, different footwear, neck warmers, etc.), please get them ready. Pack your bag ahead of time, make a list, and ensure you have everything and there’s no harm in checking it twice.

Remove any distractions and be present: Don’t take your phones to the sessions. This is the biggest distraction. But not only that, when you are at the retreat limit your conversations with people outside of the retreat. This is the time to focus on you and to get the most out of your retreat. Unless it is urgent (of course), let your friends know that you are away this weekend and you will talk to them when you are back. When you are at the sessions, block everything else out, focus on you, and focus on what the instructors are asking you to do.

Packing for a wellness retreat

Look at the programme: It goes without saying, but sometimes a lot of people don’t look at the programme. Make sure you know where each of the sessions is, you have a rough idea of the timing (keep a small programme with you – print it or on your phone). This way, you are not going to miss out on any session.

As always, come talk to us before the retreat or on the day before we start. We are here to help, and we want you to get the most out of this retreat experience. We provide you with most of the things required (exercise mats, stretching bands, water, snacks, etc.) for our retreats with Ganga Flow Wellness. We want to make your life as easy as possible, but as always just get in touch with us and ask any questions you have about it to be 100% sure. Check out our next retreat here.
